Kuari Pass Trek – Winter Trek in Uttarakhand

Whenever it comes to the Himalayan region, there’s some different kind of shine in the eyes because I know every time I visit the place, the region will welcome me with lots of different surprises.

This time I have been to the beautiful Gharwal region of the state of Uttarakhand, where I decided to take up the Kuari Pass trek. A trek, which is considered among one of the most amazing excursions, will allow you to witness some stupendous vistas through the Himalayan Mountains.

Well, if I have to talk about the best time to visit this place then it surely has to be winters. Also, for all the avid adventurers and mountain lovers, the place can give you a lifetime experience.

The never-ending meadows, snowy mountains, gorgeous forests, and breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, Kuari Pass provides you with everything worth appreciating. So, if you wish to be there to know more about the mountainous life, here’s how you plan a successful trip and what route will be suitable for you.

Kuari Pass Trek – Travel Guide

Day 1: Haridwar to Jayalgarh

So, here’s the beginning of your trip that you’ll be starting from Haridwar. If you’re joining any group, meet them at the already fixed point, which will be most probably Haridwar railway station or Dehradun airport and after reaching there, head towards Jagalgarh.

You’ll go there driving by your car on a fantastic route along river Ganga and then along river Alaknanda. En route, do not miss capturing some exotic scenic views of two amazing towns namely Rishikesh and Devprayag.

Once you reach your destination, you can stay there overnight in your tents. Have a good dinner and take some rest.

Haridwar to Jayalgarh (1)

Day 2: Jayalgarh to Base Camp Gulling

Hey, it’s the second day of your trip, so have a healthy breakfast and get ready to drive for Tugasi village that is going to take around 6-7 hours to reach. Also, on your way to Tugasi, you’ll be crossing the sacred towns of Rudraprayag, Karanaprayag, Nandaprayag, and Joshimath.

After you reach Tugasi, start trekking to the base camp gulling and will take about 2 hours to reach there. Your pathway to the base camp will allow you to pass through lush greenery and mind-blowing views of the snow-clad mountains.

After you reach your campsite, have a hot cup of tea (because it’s mandatory to shoo away all the tiredness) and wander around to appreciate the ethereal beauty of the surroundings. Stay there overnight and have a good rest. Some of the most amazing destinations in Uttarakhand is Auli.

Jayalgarh to Base Camp Gulling 

Day 3: Base Camp Gulling to Kuari Pass Meadows

On day 3, after having your breakfast, you’ll be heading towards Khulara and remember it will be a bit steep climb.

From Khulara, you’ll be trekking continuously on meadows, which will become subtle as you go up. Don’t worry fresh air and panoramic vistas of mighty mountains will certainly make up for the steep trek.

Make sure you’re always camera-ready because you’ll be welcomed by beautiful picturesque views on your way. After around 4-4.5 hours, you’ll arrive at Kuari Pass. Depending on your personal choice and strength, you can even climb up to another point and it will let you see some grander views than Kuari pass.

After you’re done viewing the mesmerizing landscape, trek back to the base camp gulling. Once you arrive there, you can either indulge in some kind of activities or simply have rest. Have your dinner and take your beauty sleep in your tents.

Day 4: Gulling to Auli

Your trip is soon going to end, so after having your breakfast, slowly start trekking from Gulling to Talli.

The gorgeous forest with massive meadows all around allows you to have a fantastic from there. Trek for a while as scenic views of great Himalayan sky-high giants namely Hathi Ghodi Peak, Dronagiri and Nanda Devi are waiting for you.

En route, you’ll also witness glorious valleys and hypnotic Himalayan villages where you can also walk through the lovely meadows of Gorson that is just 5km from Auli, a place known for skiing in India. After this, start walking down to the road and reach your campsite. Relax at your campsite and have a sound sleep under the sky full of stars.

Day 5: Auli to Haridwar

So, here comes the last day of your trip. Have a sumptuous breakfast, leave Auli and drive back to Haridwar. From there you can head towards your final destination accordingly.
